Brisbane Road Runners Club moved to West End in January 1989 after operating within the grounds of the University of Queensland from the inception of the Club in 1982.

The initial 5km looped course at West End started and finished adjacent to the gas
tower near Davies Park. On the 29th of June 2008 a new 5km course was trialled,
starting and finishing at the South Brisbane Sailing Club.

 

This new course proved popular and the Club officially began hosting events at that venue from the 21st September 2008. In 2020, the Brisbane City Council introduced signage and road markers after identifying the course as a way to support runners and
improve community fitness.
